What is TDL
TDL: how TallyPrime is made to fit your business
TDL, or Tally Definition Language, is the programming language of TallyPrime. With it a developer can add fields, reports, screens and rules, so TallyPrime works the way your business works.
TallyPrime is fast and simple, but every business has details that standard Tally does not cover: a special invoice layout, a field for delivery details, a margin report by salesman, or a rule that stops sales below cost. TDL customisation adds these without replacing Tally.
Done well, a TDL change is small, documented and tested, so it keeps working when you upgrade. Done badly, it breaks at the next release. That difference is our focus.

Our method
How we build customisations that last
A careful process is what keeps a customisation working after the next TallyPrime release.
- 1
Understand
We write down what you need, with samples of the forms and reports you use today.
- 2
Prototype
We build a first version on a test copy of your company, and show you.
- 3
Build and test
We finish the work, test with real data and check it against your reports.
- 4
Deploy and train
We install it, show your team how to use it and hand over notes.
- 5
Support across releases
We keep your customisations working when you upgrade TallyPrime.
Quality
Customisation done carelessly, or done properly?
What separates a TDL change that lasts from one that breaks.
Done carelessly
- Code copied from the internet without notes
- Tested only on live company data
- Breaks at the next TallyPrime release
- Only one developer understands it
Done our way
- Documented, readable code with a handover
- Tested on a copy, then checked against your reports
- Checked again on each release you move to
- Support from a team, not one person
The right tool
When TDL is the right answer, and when it is not
We tell you honestly. Sometimes the better answer is an integration or a bigger system.
| Your need | TDL in TallyPrime | When something else fits better |
|---|---|---|
| A new invoice or print layout | Yes, a quick and safe change | Not needed |
| Extra fields or a special report | Yes, in most cases | Not needed |
| Rules and simple approvals | Yes, for a few clear rules | Many-step approvals across teams may suit a bigger ERP |
| Data from your POS or web shop | Possible through Tally’s interfaces | A full integration layer for heavy volumes |
| Complex workflows, production planning | Limited | Odoo, Business Central or SAP |
| Many branches, users and controls | Possible for simple cases | A multi-company ERP |

TDL Customisation FAQs
What is TDL in Tally?
TDL stands for Tally Definition Language. It is the language TallyPrime is built on, and it lets a developer add fields, reports, screens, print formats and rules to TallyPrime.
Can you make TallyPrime invoices in Arabic and English?
Yes. We build bilingual invoices, quotations, delivery notes and statements with your logo, bank details and QR code, and test the right-to-left layout with your own data.
Will my TDL customisations work after I upgrade TallyPrime?
Usually yes, if they are written carefully, but not always. That is why we document and test every change, and check it again when you move to a new release.
Is TDL safe for my accounting data?
TDL customisations change how Tally looks and behaves. We always build and test on a copy of your company first, and only then install on your live data, so your books stay safe.
How long does a TDL change take?
A print format or an extra field can take a few days. A full set of reports and rules takes longer. We confirm a timeline after we have seen your samples and requirements.
How much does TDL customisation cost?
It depends on the scope. We give a written estimate for each piece of work after we understand what you need, so there are no surprises.
Can you fix TDL written by someone else?
Yes. We review existing TDL, fix what is broken, document it and bring it up to date for your current TallyPrime release.
Do you provide TDL customisation in Riyadh and the GCC?
Yes. Our head office is in Riyadh. We customise TallyPrime for businesses across Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman, remotely or at your office.
